General FAQs
Pathview Wealth Advisors is a fee‑only, fiduciary wealth management firm that takes a tax‑first approach to financial planning and investing. Rather than focusing solely on investment performance, we help clients make better financial decisions by integrating tax planning, retirement planning, and portfolio management into one coordinated strategy.
Yes. Tax planning is a core part of our wealth management services and is not billed separately for our ongoing wealth management clients. We proactively identify opportunities to reduce taxes now and over your lifetime by coordinating investment decisions, retirement strategies, income planning, and estate considerations.
We typically work with high‑earning professionals, business owners, pre‑retirees, and retirees who value comprehensive financial planning and tax efficiency. Many of our clients have complex tax situations, equity compensation, multiple income sources, or are approaching major life transitions.
At Pathview Wealth Advisors, we do not sell or promote annuities or insurance products. We are a fee-only firm, which means our advice is not influenced by commissions or product sales.
Insurance is part of the review within our comprehensive financial planning process. If we identify a need, such as term life insurance, we will recommend appropriate coverage and refer you to a trusted insurance professional or your existing provider to implement it.
Our independent structure, with no affiliation to a broker-dealer or insurance company, allows us to remain fully product-neutral and focused solely on providing objective, fiduciary advice.
In some cases, yes. While most clients engage us for ongoing financial planning and investment management, we may offer standalone tax planning engagements when appropriate. Annual fees for tax planning start at $5,000 and increase depending on complexity and scope. Please note that our wealth management clients receive complimentary tax planning as part of our service.
Tax‑efficient investing focuses on structuring portfolios in ways that help reduce taxes on investment income, capital gains, and withdrawals. This may include asset location strategies, tax‑loss harvesting, thoughtful rebalancing, and coordination with broader tax and retirement planning.
Yes. We provide investment portfolio management as part of our comprehensive wealth management services. Portfolios are designed around your goals, risk tolerance, time horizon, and tax situation—and are regularly monitored and adjusted as your circumstances evolve.
Currently, we do not have a minimum asset level.
Getting started begins with an introductory conversation to understand your goals, concerns, and financial situation. If it appears we’re a good fit, we’ll outline the next steps and explain how our planning and advisory process works.
Pathview Wealth Advisors is based in San Diego, California, and we work with clients both locally and remotely across the U.S. Our planning and advisory process is designed to support clients regardless of location.
Pathview Wealth Advisors may not be the right fit for everyone. We are not ideal for:
– DIY investors who prefer to manage their own portfolios without ongoing guidance or collaboration
– Investors focused on short‑term trading, or speculation rather than long‑term, disciplined planning
– Individuals solely seeking tax preparation services without interest in integrated financial, investment, and tax planning
– Individuals solely seeking tax planning services without interest in ongoing wealth management
Our services are designed for clients who value comprehensive financial planning, tax efficiency, and a long‑term partnership, rather than isolated or transactional advice.
Financial Planning FAQs
Financial planning is the process of aligning your money with your life goals. It helps bring clarity to decisions around saving, investing, taxes, retirement, and risk management—so your finances support what matters most to you, both now and in the future.
Fee‑only financial planning means we are compensated solely by our clients, not by commissions or product sales. This structure helps reduce conflicts of interest and reinforces our role as a fiduciary advisor acting in your best interest at all times.
Tax planning informs nearly every major financial decision, from investments and retirement withdrawals to charitable giving and estate strategies. We integrate ongoing tax planning into your financial plan to help improve outcomes over time, not just at tax filing season.
A fee only fiduciary financial advisor is legally required to act in the client’s best interest. Pathview Wealth Advisors operates solely as a fee only fiduciary financial advisor, meaning our advice is guided by what best supports your goals rather than by commissions or incentives.
We help clients plan for retirement by coordinating savings strategies, investment allocation, tax planning, Social Security considerations, withdrawal strategies, as well as several other strategies. The goal is to help you retire with clarity and confidence, not guesswork.
Yes. In some cases, we offer standalone financial planning engagements for individuals who are not yet ready for ongoing wealth management. Standalone financial planning fees typically range from $3,000 to $10,000+ for a single annual plan, based on complexity of your situation and the scope of planning involved.
That said, we believe comprehensive financial planning is most effective when it is integrated with ongoing investment management and tax planning. For this reason, financial planning is included as part of our wealth management services for ongoing clients.
Investing FAQs
Pathview Wealth Advisors charges an asset‑based fee that is billed quarterly in advance and calculated using a tiered (sliding) fee schedule. As your managed assets increase, the fee percentage applied to each additional tier decreases.
Our current annual fee schedule is:
1.25% on the first $500,000
1.00% on the next $500,000
0.90% on assets from $1,000,000 to $2,000,000
0.80% on assets from $2,000,000 to $3,000,000
0.70% on assets from $3,000,000 to $4,000,000
0.60% on assets from $4,000,000 to $5,000,000
0.60% on assets over $5,000,000
Example: $1,000,000 portfolio
Here’s how our fee would be calculated for a $1 million portfolio:
1.25% on the first $500,000 = $6,250
1.00% on the next $500,000 = $5,000
Total annual fee: $11,250
This equals $2,812.50 per quarter, billed quarterly in advance.
Fees are based on the value of assets under management and are deducted directly from client accounts as outlined in each client’s advisory agreement.
Asset allocation refers to how your investments are divided among different asset types, such as stocks and bonds. Proper allocation helps balance risk and return, aligns your portfolio with your goals, and supports long‑term discipline.
We assess risk tolerance through thoughtful conversations about your goals, experiences, time horizon, and ability to stay invested during market volatility. Risk tolerance is not just a questionnaire—it’s a planning conversation.
Active investing attempts to outperform the market through security selection, while passive investing seeks to track market performance at lower cost. We evaluate these approaches within the context of long‑term goals, costs, taxes, and discipline rather than chasing short‑term results.
Making investments more tax‑efficient may involve strategies such as tax‑loss harvesting, asset location planning, and minimizing unnecessary taxable transactions. These decisions are most effective when coordinated with your overall financial and tax plan.
Diversification helps spread risk across different investments, sectors, and asset classes. While diversification does not eliminate risk, it can help manage volatility and support a more consistent long‑term investment experience.
We use a range of tax‑efficient investment vehicles based on each client’s goals, tax situation, and overall financial plan. Depending on the strategy, this may include:
– Mutual funds and exchange‑traded funds (ETFs)
– Separately managed accounts (SMAs) for individual stocks
– Separately managed accounts (SMAs) for bonds and fixed income
– Other tax‑efficient strategies, such as exchange funds, when appropriate
We do not use any proprietary products. Investment selection is guided by portfolio design, tax considerations, and long‑term planning objectives rather than product availability.
We focus on goal‑based planning, education, and disciplined portfolio management. During periods of market volatility, we help clients stay focused on their long‑term plan rather than reacting emotionally to short‑term market movements.
Taxes FAQs
Tax planning is the proactive process of identifying strategies to reduce taxes over time, not just this year. Thoughtful tax planning can improve after‑tax returns, support retirement goals, and increase financial flexibility. Tax planning is for both retired and non-retired individuals.
Tax preparation looks backward and reports what already happened. Tax planning looks forward, helping guide financial decisions throughout the year to improve future tax outcomes. We focus on planning, not return preparation.
The best time to start tax planning is before major financial decisions are made, not after. Ongoing tax planning allows strategies to be implemented early and adjusted as laws and life circumstances change.
Yes. Strategic tax planning can help manage retirement income sources, sequence withdrawals, and reduce exposure to higher tax brackets, surtaxes, or Medicare‑related premiums under current tax rules.
Our tax planning services may include retirement distribution planning, Roth conversion analysis, capital gains strategies, charitable planning, and coordination with your CPA or tax professional.
No, you are not required to use CPAs associated with Pathview Wealth Advisors. Our in-house CPAs can collaborate with your existing CPA and other professional advisors to coordinate tax planning, investment decisions, and broader financial strategies. Our goal is to work as part of your advisory team to help create the best outcome for your specific situation.
Tax considerations are integrated into investment management, retirement planning, and long‑term financial strategy. This coordinated approach helps avoid disconnected decisions and supports greater clarity around trade‑offs and outcomes.
No, tax preparation fees are billed separately and start at a minimum of $1,500 and increase based on complexity. Tax planning, however, is included as part of the wealth management fee at no additional cost to our wealth management clients.
Independence & Affiliation FAQs
No. Pathview Wealth Advisors is completely independent and is not affiliated with Ameriprise Financial or any other brokerage firm, bank, or insurance company. We operate independently so that our advice is guided solely by our clients’ best interests.
Being independent means we are not tied to proprietary investment products, sales quotas, or corporate platforms. This structure allows us to provide objective advice and select strategies, custodians, and investments based on what best supports each client’s goals—not on outside incentives.
No. Pathview Wealth Advisors is a fee‑only fiduciary firm. We do not sell financial products, earn commissions, or receive compensation from third parties. Our compensation comes directly from our clients, which helps reduce conflicts of interest.
Independence can provide greater transparency, flexibility, and objectivity. Without an affiliation to a large financial institution, advisors can focus on personalized planning, tax efficiency, and long‑term decision‑making, rather than product recommendations.
